PROFILES OF SOME OF DISTRICT 95 OFFICERS
Sarah MacPhee
Club Growh Director
As the Club Growth Director, I work with the region advisor to meet the district’s membership and club-building goals, appoint club sponsors, mentors for new clubs and club coaches for exisiting clubs that are struggling.
Monitor Division, area and club administration to ensure forms, reports, lists and other information are submitted to World Headquarters in a timely manner. This inculdes the Area Director’s Club Visit Report and club officer lists. In addition the Club Growth Director is responsible for developing a marketing plan together with district team members. www.toastmasters.org/districtleadercompetencies
On a personal plan I want to give six speeches for my ACS, and complete the first level from Pathways.
My interest is to listen to people’s stories about their turning points in life, improving quality of life
In my leisure time I enjoy reading, walking and attending meetings at Copenhagen Toastmasters Club.
Saji Nair
District 95 Alignment Commitee Chair
My goal is to make sure the realignment of the district is done in a easy, progresive and transparent manner with proper communication to clubs and areas which will be effected by the alignment.
Toastmasters is my interest and right now in my spare time I am helping a new club in my neigborhood to be chartered. My club is called ‘Speak to Lead Toastmasters’. I work with change communications and I am passionate about communication as a whole, and if time permits I do yoga.
Olaf Langenbeck
Finance Manager
I am District 95’s Finance Manager in term 2018-19. I am responsible to support all district leaders to manage the funds which are necessary to carry out a successful Toastmaster year. Therefore I put together and adjust the figures of district’s budget and make sure that the district is spending all the money only on the important tasks.
Additionaly I have to prepare all by Toastmaster International requested reports regarding finance.
In my leisure time I play billiards and hear a lot of jazz-fusion-music.
The reason why I am member of Toastmasters is for being with people from all over the world and as a member of the district’s core team that goal is met for sure.
I hope to see you in person soon 😉
Goetz Mueller
Pathways Guide Coordinator
After having supported the launch & rollout of Pathways in District 95, I continue supporting the District Officers, Club Officers, and members with information, material, and advice regarding all topics related to Pathways. I think the journey has just started and we still need some more time until the program gets ingrained into the organisation and its member on a similar level that the old program achieved in decades.
My goal as a member of the extended core team in District 95 is to spread the word about Pathways, its purpose and benefits, also compiling topics and feedback from the clubs that are worth to improve the program and its handling, especially for non-english speaking people.
Being a Toastmasters member since 2006, I strongly believe personal development is not anything that comes to an end or get boring in some way. Supporting other people is part of my personal purpose in life (in Toastmasters and beyond).
In my non-Toastmasters life as part of my business marketing I’m running a blog (350+ articles) and a podcast (120+ episodes) regarding business processes and their improvements based on Lean & Kaizen principles, methods, and tools.
Bertie Suwardi
PR Manager
I am responsible to create the district PR and marketing strategies, including coordinating the communication channels. In addition to that, I answer any enquiries about PR from Toastmasters clubs in District 95.
Joining Toastmasters has given me an opportunity to meet people from all over the world, improve my communication, leadership, and organisational skills. Being active in Toastmasters has also stretched me to improve my skills.
In my leisure time I write my blog, create videos about Luleå, public speaking and motivation, play music, and cook.
More profiles of the district officers coming up in the next newsletter.
District 95’s goal is to achieve President’s Distinguished District 2018-2019.
MEMBERS’ ACHIEVEMENT
Congratulations to two our first DTMs:
Khushi Pasquale DTM from Center Berlin Toastmaster, and Sabine Pick DTM from Hamburg Power Speakers.
Khushi Pasquale shares her experience
Along the route to Distinguished Toastmaster, the destination is not the goal. The goal is to develop, strengthen and stretch our skills and talents as speakers and leaders.

Khushi Pasquale, DTM
What is your club name and where is it located?
I am the founder and member of Center Berlin Toastmasters in Berlin, Germany. I am also a member of the prospective club, Innovate Toastmasters Potsdam in Potsdam, Germany.
Who have helped you along the way?
Who hasn’t helped me! Help, support, motivation, and inspiration have come from all directions. Every Toastmaster meeting I attend at home or abroad has taught me something.
When I first joined Toastmasters in 2012, it was Alin Stefaniu, then President of Mercury Toastmasters and Johanna Rohwer, IPP, who pushed and pulled me into speech competitions and club leadership roles. That got me hooked on Toastmaster achievement. Soon after I was inspired by district officers Morag and David Mathiesson who encouraged me further. An unsung hero of our Berlin Toastmaster family, Anna Eicher, took me under her wing as I launched into more advanced, more challenging leadership projects. She constantly validated me and often got me back on my feet after I had failed.
There were quieter companions on my journey too – fellow contestants were always generous, as were Toastmasters who formed my High Performance Leadership team, or worked dilligently to charter Center Berlin, or served in our Speechcraft program. Especially important to me are those who have shared their moments of doubt and moments of discovery.
How has Toastmasters helped you in your professional life?
I actually started Toastmasters once I retired as a Business English and Professional Skills Trainer. As a trainer I spoke from authority, as a Toastmaster I had to learn to speak as a peer. I love how this requires me to make my speeches more personal and authentic.
Toastmasters has helped me enormously in my family Iife. After a little less than a TM year, I chose to emcee my father’s 90th birthday celebration. Friends and relatives commented on how self-assured I was, on how I had overcome my shyness.
Toastmasters definitely increased my self-confidence and my willingness to connect with others. This has benefitted me in all areas of my life.
Any tips for us who are in the journey to achieve DTM?
For my health and well-being, I am a walker. My goal is to walk 10,000 steps a day. I have been doing this for about five years now. I love it. Even when I start out low on energy, the walk revives me, filling me with joy.
On one of my recent walks, it was hot and dry. I was tired and still about 30 minutes from home. I reached a point along my route where I could take a diagonal short cut across a field. I headed along that diagonal with thoughts of flopping on the couch when I got home.
Suddenly I stopped. What was I doing? My goal was not to get home! My goal was to exercise, to complete the 10,000 steps! Cutting across the field would not help me reach my goal.
That was a big moment for me: a moment of Toastmaster realization.
Along the route to Distinguished Toastmaster, the destination is not the goal. The goal is to develop, strengthen and stretch our skills and talents as speakers and leaders.
We do that by taking the steps along the path, choosing projects that challenge us, working in teams, identifying needs and then providing that service to our club and our District.
Sometimes the easier route tempts us, but that’s not where we are going to get the best exercise. The energy boost comes not when I reach home, but in every cell of my body along those 10,000 steps.
The most worthwhile tip I can give any Toastmaster is to follow the learning program. Choose the projects that you love. Choose projects that stretch you. Don’t cut corners. Involve others. Cross club borders. Challenge yourself. Enjoy the process. Believe me, that is how you will get the most benefit out of Toastmasters.

VIDEO PROJECT IN GERMAN
Join Bärbel Wallon (Division F Director), Craig Curtis (Division F PR Manager), and Christoph Wanzke (Area Director)’s team to create Toastmasters marketing/PR videos in German.
What do we want?
We want to produce PR videos for Toastmasters in German language that can be used by clubs, areas, divisions on their social media accounts, websites, etc.
This could be a video showing Toastmasters talking about what they like about their club, how they benefited from being a member, etc. Other ideas are welcome.
Those videos should be kind of professional so that we can actually use it for PR. However, we don’t expect a high end Hollywood production either (though we wouldn’t refuse it).
Whom are we looking for?
We need several people taking different roles.
– Project lead. Someone who takes charge. Who is responsible for this project.
– Camera/Tech operator: Someone who is experienced with shooting videos, lighting and sound (maybe several people). Camera and further equipment should be available
– Editor: Person who is able to cut and edit the final video.
– Models: Toastmasters to be captured for the video
When should the video be finished?
Optimistically, we would appreciate it at the end of 2018. More realistically, February 2019.
What is also important?
We need either a location or a studio like setup.
We want to make the resulting videos available to our clubs, areas etc. Therefore, we need a so called model release contract with all people visible on the video which allows us to share the video.
If you are interested or want to get more information, please contact Craig Curtis (Division F PR Manager) on curtmar_4c1@msn.com
