Chief Judge

Essential Tasks of the Chief Judge

The Chief Judge records the ranking of all contestants in the form “notification of contest winner”. He will sent it to the contest chair of the next higher contest level. It should contain all participants, even if only one or two are qualified for the next level. Please be aware that situations might occur where someone has to withdraw his participation. If this happens the contest chair of the next higher contest level will need the contact details and club of further contestants.

Recruiting of the Judges

To make your contest professionally the role of chief judge is quite important.

Chief Judge is very important figure; job is underrated;

  • member with experience
  • first and foremost: find chief judge
  • needs experience;
  • should have been a judge before;
  • know rulebook by heart;
  • needs to be able to deal with violations
  • What is a violation and what is not
  • CJ needs to have good knowledge on the rules
  • CJ should have support from Area Director
  • How ready the person is to deal with the challenge;
  • members with long time service or membership
  • build a team of judges
  • must be able to deal with challenges

know who can make a protest;

e.g. sergeant of arms shouts some comments about violations

as a last measure ask person to leave the room

Q+A

Due date for club contest?

How does that relate to area- and other contest levels then?

is there a certain time period for each contest level?

There are only one or two contestants in the club contest. Does the contest still have to be carried out?

A: The contest does not have to be performed. But doing it is beneficial for the speakers because it gives them more practice.

Speakers can be nominated directly for the Area contest either way.

Depending on the range of participants in this contest-prep-call a contact overview of the persons that need to be informed about planned club contests would be great!

Does a club contest have certain requirements ,e.g. is it a stand-alone meeting or can there be like a contest part embedded in the normal meeting?

How are contest winners reported? Are there existing forms, or is it to be done informally via email?

Clarification of the requirements that need to be fulfilled by the contestants in order to be allowed to participate at the different contests (especially the ones in English)
