Moehrendorf professional development consultant becomes Toastmasters International First Vice President

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Aug. 28, 2021 — Morag Mathieson, of Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany, has been elected First Vice President of Toastmasters International, the world’s leading organization devoted to communication and leadership skills development. Mathieson was elected to the one-year term at the organization’s 90th annual International Convention, held virtually Aug. 23-28.

As a member of the Toastmasters International Board of Directors, Mathieson is a “working ambassador” for the organization. She works with the Board to develop and support the policies and procedures that guide Toastmasters International in fulfilling its mission.

Mathieson is a self-employed professional development consultant and chair of the Board of the child sponsorship charity Living Water Germany e.V.. Previously, she was the general manager and superintendent pharmacist for Belfast Co-operative Chemists, where she had full professional and business responsibility for a group of pharmacies in Northern Ireland. Her responsibilities included all aspects of strategy, service development and delivery. At Alliance Pharmacy, she created new business concepts including continuing professional development for pharmacy professionals.

Mathieson holds a master’s degree in business administration from The Open University in Milton Keynes, England. She served on pharmacy services boards of government departments in both Scotland and in Northern Ireland. She also served on the board of USA Girl Scouts Overseas in Southern Germany, where she was responsible for finance.

A Toastmaster since 2006, Mathieson is a member of her home club, Erlangen Toastmasters in Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany. She has held a number of high-profile leadership positions within Toastmasters and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation—the highest level of educational achievement in the organization.

She says, “Growth in confidence is the biggest single benefit to be gained from Toastmasters. By establishing and extending their competence in all forms of communication and leadership, members are able to make a positive impact throughout all aspects of their lives.”

Spring District Conference in Lübeck, Germany

there are only 9 months left until the District Conference 2022 in Lübeck. The motto of the conference is “Guiding Light”, for two reasons. The first reason is the name of the club that is organising the conference. It is the “LeuchtturmRedner” (in English lighthouse speakers). Lighthouses have been used for centuries to guide sailors safely across the seas.

At the same time, they give hope of getting home safely. And that brings us to the second reason. Because on the one hand we want to give the Toastmasters in District 95 hope for a conference in person, and on the other hand we want to guide them back to the new normal after the pandemic.

But what does the new normal look like that we want to guide you into?  First and foremost, there will be a conference where you can meet in person again and experience the speeches live. But as far as logistically, technically and financially possible, we also want to make it possible to experience the conference online.

We have also started a project in which a member, as part of an HPL project, wants to create software with other Toastmasters to make it easier to organise speech competitions in the future. Anyone who is interested is welcome to collaborate on this. Currently we are preparing the ticket sales, which should start at the beginning of October at the latest. By then we want to be able to name a keynote speaker and we want to have drawn up a first rough programme. In the future all further information can be found on the conference website at https://conference.toastmasters-95.org
